Makeup Must Haves

Hello and welcome back to Madison From Madison! As the school year ended and the summer began, I became more and more interested in beauty. For a long time my beauty routine was defined by simplicity and the products my mom would purchase for me. However, through exploring stores and watching beauty gurus on YouTube, I have found new products and a routine that actually work for me. For today's blog post, I wanted to share some of these products with you. Keep in mind that what works for me might not work for you. Beauty is extremely personal which makes it interesting and fun.

Many of these products are ones that I've learned about from YouTube beauty gurus so I thought I would also tell you about my favorite person to watch. While procrastinating during this past spring semester, I stumbled upon Tati Westbrook, better known as GlamLifeGuru on YouTube. She is the first beauty account on any social media platform that I have ritually followed, and she remains my favorite! Additionally, she posts five days a week Monday through Friday! Crazy right? Her product reviews are brutally honest and extremely helpful. Moral of the story, go check her out HERE.

With all of that said, here are eight of my current favorite beauty products. At the bottom of this post you can find links to all of these products. All of them (besides the eyeshadow palette) can be found at your local Target, Walmart, or drugstore, and all of them are pretty affordable! As you can tell from these pictures, some of these products are extremely well loved. However, I don't use all of them every single day. My routine definitely changes based on my activities each day.

PREP AND SET- For the longest time I would sit down, slap on my makeup, and go. Overtime I have found that this doesn't work with my skin anymore and without any extra products, my makeup has a difficult time staying on for the whole day. Enter primer and setting spray! Although I'm still in the market to invest in a better primer and setting spray, these have worked amazing so far. e.l.f. has always been one of my favorite brands at the drugstore because their products are cheap, but most work extremely well. Their Beautifully Bare Luminous Matte Makeup Primer glides on the skin and fills the pores. The Makeup Fixing Mist by Pixi has rose water and green tee inside which leaves your face smelling great and feeling refreshed.

FOUNDATION and POWDER- I am always hesitant to try out a new foundation. Between the right shade, wear time, and application, there are just so many stipulations. The Photo Focus foundation from Wet n Wild has taken the beauty community by storm in terms of a quality foundation at a low cost. I'm talking like under $5! I have two of the lighter shades in the range (the darker one looks oddly dark in this photo) and love it. I either use a Beauty Blender or a large kabuki brush to apply this foundation and it gives a wonderful airbrushed finish. After applying some kind of concealer wherever I need it, I will sometimes use my Loose Face Powder in Translucent from Coty Airspun. This just helps set everything in place to ensure long wear. I usually put this on with a damp Beauty Blender and press it into my face.

BRONZER and HIGHLIGHTER- While I don't always find bronzer or highlighter to be necessary, these products are my favorite for when I want to elevate my look a little. The Butter Bronzer by Physicians Formula has a following of its own. I usually apply it to the hollows of my cheek bones and my hairline and it gives my face a little more color. Maybelline's Facestudio Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter helps you achieve the perfect blinding highlight that has been all the rage recently. I love the rose gold color, but the product also comes in gold, bronze, and peach. If you want to be a glowing goddess, these products will definitely help you get there.

EYESHADOW- In terms of eyeshadow, I used to exclusively swear by an e.l.f. nude palette that had 10 shades in it. For a girl on the go this selection was perfect, and I still pack it with me when I travel. As I started to get more into beauty though, I realized I wanted to invest in a bigger palette of neutrals. Tati/GlamLifeGuru used this affordable palette from BH Cosmetics in one of her videos and the number of shades at the price point attracted me. I decided to go for it and order it online, and it only took a week or two to get to me. I am really happy with this palette and have used it for multiple special occasions. Do know that this palette is pretty powdery, but I would consider the pigmentation to be worth it. There is a wide array of mattes, metallics, and shimmers which allows for many amazing looks.

MASCARA- My recent mascara love has been the L'Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise. I'm almost in need of another one already, I've found that this mascara builds up the lashes and elongates them as well. With a layer or two, my lashes look great!

I hope this post gave you some ideas for new products to invest in and try out! I loved putting it together for you. If you are interested in looking into and/or purchasing any of these products, the links are below.
